You are a writer (So start acting like you are)
By Jeff Goins
This is a much-needed book for people who at least once saw their own picture as a writer in their mind. There are some lines in this book which will definitely motivate you but one line which I like the most is, ‘you are a writer, you just have to write’!
How will you feel if you have a friend who talks nicely, who remind you of your own good qualities, push you to do more and explains your things with his own experiences? This book exactly works like a mature friend who knows where and how to pinch and how to get his work done.
The book’s name suggests the theme itself. The basic concept of this book is, ‘writers are born and not made’. But the author goes beyond this work of making you realize that you are a writer so start acting like you are, he gives step to step methods for writing and focusing on your craft. He easily solves the doubts in your mind and most importantly this book is not like other self-help books which only focus on bombarding things you don’t do.
Jeff is an American author, blogger, and speaker. He is the founder of Tribe Writers, an online community for writers. He also has written other books which can be motivational stuff for a writer or artist which is ‘Real Artist Don’t Strive’. Apart from this, he has published many blogs on writing doubts and habits. His blogs and books are simple to understand and easy to follow. The small steps he asks you to follow are worth a try.
The another brilliant advice I came across is ‘Cancel all backup plans, pick a project (it may be a book, Blog or whatever) and move forward. Start writing. If you don’t, all you’re doing is waiting.’ The author has skillfully explained his perspectives and experiences. He frequently talks about great writers like Hemingway, Bono, Dickinson, Oprah, etc to clear his points. Jeff forces you to conclude your thinking on one thought, ‘I Must start’. He has quoted some great thoughts like,
1. Writing takes more hours and energy than you’d ever be able to plan for.
2. No one cares about you as the writer until you’ve actually written something.
3. What you write isn’t as important as getting your work in front of the right people.
4. above all, if you don’t love it, you’re kind of screwed.
Apart from these points, there is much more in this book to explore, more to learn and more to absorb.
If you are a writer in any way, you must grab this bundle of motivation!
