BEING BRAVE ENOUGH TO JUST BE UNAPOLOGETIC FOR WHO YOU ARE-THAT’S A GODDESS

The festival of Shakti, the festival of womanhood, and the festival of the goddess Durga is just around the corner. Its not just a festival for celebrating the pride of being a woman, but also of the power of good over evil and the victory of love over hate.

The idol makers put in hours, days and months in making the majestic and larger than life idols of gods and goddesses. But do you know how these idols are made?According to the traditional Hindu rituals, there are four things that's go into the making of the idols for Durga puja mud from the river Ganges, cow dung, cow urine and soil soil from forbidden territories. What could be the reason behind considering this soil from brothels auspicious? Well, according to puranas, it is believed that when a man enters a sex workers house he leaves behind his virtue and purity outside the house making the soil at the doorstep pure. Some others believe that this custom was started so as to include the prostitutes in the festivities of Durga Pooja, as MAA Durga doesn't differentiate between any sections of the society. Whatever the reason may be to worship MAA Durga all woman come together irrespective of their profession, caste, colour to celebrate strength, power and devotion. Another aspect of Durga Pooja is the sindoor khela where married women put on sindoor or vermilion on MAA durga's forehead and feet and thereafter they apply it on other married women present around them. Since sindoor is a sign of a married woman by following this ritual, women wish for a blessed marital life for one another. An integral part of Hinduism is the empowerment of woman and worshiping her as it is as the sole purpose of shaktism- that empowers the mind, body and the soul.
