Well not exactly..
In case you've been living under a rock, let me tell you that Thanos is ( actually, 'was') the antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) who wanted to wipe out half the population from this planet since he believed that doing this would remove chaos from the world and bring in a much needed balance.
Thanos wasn't the only one worrying about population, someone had been worrying about it back in the 18th century. Thomas Robert Malthus gave a theory in 1789 called
Simply put, this theory states that while population grows Geometrically, food resources grow Arithmetically. This means thatthe rate of growth of population is always substantially more than that of food resources, so at any given time there would be more people and less food available for these people. To be precise, Malthus even predicted that in the next two centuries, the ratio between population and food would be 259 to 9, that translates as 259 people and only 9 food resources for them. If this makes you think Thanos shouldn't have been defeated after all, think again because statistics differ from what this theory above states. Countries have witnessed that while their population doubled, food production tripled. What we must not forget that human beings have the ability to think and come up with ideas to deal with problems like we always have. What must also be noted here is that technology grows exponentially, and with that alternate food resources are being researched on too.
Encouraging people to have fewer children has not been proven very prosperous for nations like Japan where they have a scarcity of the younger generation which has severly impacted the country's economy.
Wiping out have the population, which is what Thanos did in the movie, is certainly not the solution to keep population in check and neither is encouraging people to have fewer children.
