The future can't be predicted. Who can say about the next accident or calamity? No one can assume the losses before any crisis. To control tsunamis, cyclones and tornados are not in our hand but we can control famines, fire accidents, road accidents, and other man-made calamities. The man-made calamities are caused by our carelessness and paucity of information. The upshots are mind-boggling. The traffic rules are already there to alert people and control road accidents but what about fire accidents. It is important to curb fire accidents.
Road accidents are happening every hour but when fire accidents occur the loss may be more catastrophic than assumptions. It may cost a huge loss of life and assets. This situation can be controlled by using fire extinguishing equipment.
In India, fire accidents took place several times due to short circuit, Smoking, Candles, Barbeques, Faulty wirings, Defective products and lack of legislative provisions.
In BPCL plant, Bombay a major explosion took place that took away the lives of approximately 43 people on 9 August 2018. On 17 December 2018, a dastardly fire accident took place in which 110 people were rescued on the spot. The fire was due to sparks flowing from a welding machine. In Bihar,27 people were burnt on a bus due to a fire accident. In the 2011 AMRI fire accident, Kolkata took place in which 90 people died. Again on 23 February 2013, a major fire accident took place in a market of Kolkata and 19 people have died in it. The fire was due to a short circuit.
The worst accident took place on 24 May 2019 at Surat. This was due to a short circuit in the building. At least 20 students were engulfed by fire and rest were hospitalized. The blazing flames were so intense that it burnt away the wooden staircase. There was no way for the kids to escape safely. Some died by suffocation and some jumped from the fourth floor. There were no extinguishers and equipment. It took an hour to contain the blaze. This incident is really astonishing.
Every building must have safety equipment. Fire extinguishers, Fire blankets, Fire hose reels, Sprinklers, Smoke alarms, First aid kits and Emergency exits on every floor.
A Crisis is a challenge, not a calamity. We should be ready for any kind of calamity to avoid the loss. It becomes so dreading for people caught in a fire to face death. Fire extinguishing equipment must be set up in every building. During sanctioning the map of any building it should be compulsory to keep fire extinguishers and minimum use of articles that can spread the fire. The things involve less use of plywoods in ceiling and furniture, curtain and covering's material should not be flammable. Smoking should not be done inside the house. Appliances need to be used properly and good wiring should be ensured.
We can not prevent the roaring fire flames to damage the things but we can save ourselves by avoiding flammable things and using fire extinguishers.
