A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera with a life span of 6 months. Now, let us keep all this science aside. Did you know that dragonflies have been around for about 300 million years. Their lives are connected to two elements of the earth: air and water. Dragonflies are the essence of the winds of change and carry a very deep and significant meaning in various cultures.

According to the mayans, dragonflies were considered as the symbol of the goddess of creativity- IxChel. They believed that that the dragonflies were the keepers of dreams and showed the path of a person's true potential. They also believed that the colours on the wings of a dragonfly were the reflection of the universe itself.

In Japanese and chinese culture, dragonflies are considered to be the symbol of rebirth. According to them, they signify peace, harmony and prosperity. They are treated as a holy spirit and are believed to have medicinal qualities.

Sweden:

According to the Swedish culture, dragonflies are considered as the guardians of truth and come to check upon people. They are said to spy upon the children who lie.

Native America:
Native Americans believe that dragonflies signify happiness, speed and purity. According to their culture, dragonflies strip away all the negativity helping to achieve goals and dreams. They also believe that they are a good luck charm.
