Earth Day: Protect Our Species

Every year earth day was celebrated on 22 April. This year, the theme is 'protect our species’. More than 193 countries celebrate earth day and organize events to protect the earth.

Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970. And from that day onwards to show the support of environmental protection, the celebrations last for one week.

Earth Day: How it started -
In 1969, in San Francisco at UNESCO conference peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the earth with the concept of peace. It is first celebrated on 21 March 1970, in the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.

After a month, a separate earth day is founded by the United States Senator Gaylord Nelson on 22 April 1970.

An organization founded by Denis Hayes, who was the national coordinator in 1970 took it internationally in 1990. And organized events in 141 countries.

The theme of Earth day -

To make people aware, every year in the world earth day a theme is chosen so that people can be aware of the environmental activities, that will be occur in the current year.People are also encouraged to use limited resources to protect the environment. Since the year 2007 world earth day, a theme is decided to decide the activities for the following year. The themes that were in since the year 2007 are:

• The theme for the World Earth Day in the year 2007 was “Be mindful to the Earth by starting to save resources”.

• The theme of World Earth Day in the year 2008 was “Please Trees”.

• 2009 theme of the world Earth day is “How people get around”.

• 2010 theme of the world Earth day is “ Decrease”.

• 2011 theme of the world Earth day is “Make Air Clean”.

• 2012 theme of the world Earth day is “Earth Mobilization”.

• 2013 theme of the world Earth day is “Change in the face of the climate”.

• 2014 theme of the world Earth day is Cities of greenery”.

• 2015 theme of the world Earth day is “Green Earth, Clean Earth with Wonderful World of Water”.

• 2016 theme of the world Earth day is “Trees for managing the Earth Resources”.

• 2017 theme of the world Earth day is “Climate Literacy and Environment”.

• 2018 theme of the world Earth day is “End Plastic Pollution Countdown to April 22”.

• 2019 theme of the world Earth day is “protect our species”.

Importance of Earth Day -

World earth day is celebrated to make people aware to protect our Mother Earth. This day is marked to nurture every plane and animal species and sustainable development.

This year's theme “protect our species” was mainly focused to protect the species who are on the verge of extinction. Because of various reasons like pollution, poaching, global warming, deforestation and any other type of climatic changes.

It also focuses to minimize the use of pesticides and insecticide and use only organic farming methods.

To spread awareness to protect the species different types of events are organized like talkies, organizing competitions. Recycling wastes, planting trees, etc.,

We should take every measure to protect our mother earth. And make the earth more beautiful and lovely. From then it is now. It is truly said that:
