“Both Men and Women should feel free to be sensitive
Both Men and Women should feel free to be strong.” – Emma Watson
Imagine a world where Mitchell Starc bowls 150 km/h bouncer to his better half Alyssa Healy who is a Wicket Keeper batswomen in the Australian Women’s team, or imagine jhulan goswami bowling a perfect outside off stump and getting Virat Kohli out by caught behind the wicket, or Mithali Raj scoring a 100+ opening stand with Rohit Sharma sounds weird right? Well it shouldn’t, be it any sport there should not be any gender barrier or inequality.
In fact a sport teaches us to play together as a team and perform as a team. It has never been a spirit of any sport to discriminate a player on the basis of their gender.
So keeping the spirit of the game in mind Royal Challenge Sports Drink took a revolutionary step and came up with a idea of hosting the first ever Mixed Gender t-20 match, they released a video on their twitter handle in which we could see Great Indian players like Virat Kohli, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur who talked about the idea of playing together with no inequalities.
Along with the video a poll was there to see if people supported this idea and the results were very mesmerizing it was 80% Yes for the match and 20% No. I personally voted Yes and felt very happy that so many people support this radical step which would become a great chapter in the history of cricket.
The players involved are very excited and show great support for the idea here are some statements from the players themselves:
“If we are quiet, who’s going to change the world? Let’s break stereotypes, let’s strive for a world that is equal. I’m joining hands with @rcgameforlife to say #ChallengeAccepted,” Mithali Raj tweeted.
“This is the perfect time to change the game and when there is a challenge around, I’m always saying ‘Accepted’. I’m teaming up with @rcgameforlife for the first ever mixed gender T20 match. Are you game?”- Veda Krishnamurthy
“Be it men or women, cricket is one game, and I want to urge fans to break the boundaries that exist in their mind that divides the sport by gender,” Kohli said in a press conference.
Well no fixed date is decided for the match but the players stepping up and talking about the concept is a big step in breaking the stereotypes. In India where cricketers are given the stature of God , when they take such big steps and urge people to support then surely we can expect a large amount of support from the people.
I personally feel that it is a beautiful concept and should be brought into existence and in future we should not only see 1 or 2 matches but a mixed gender series.
