How To Be A Good Listener

Having two years and one month reminders that we need to do more of listening and less of talking.we should listen twice as much as we speak. Hearing is physical ability but listening is skill. The main problem with human is that we don't listen to understand but listen to reply. when we talk we are only repeating the things that you already know but when we listen we learn something newthat we may not know.

All people care for their opinion. Even when one is listening to someone else '"how will I reply to this? " seems to always be on the back of our mind.

Here are few skills need to be acquired if one wants tobe a good listener :
1)stop talking and listen to the speaker first
when someone else is talking be patient and listen to them force do not interrupt or talk over them over finish the sentence for them. Focus on the speaker and other things out of the mind. Human ine get easily distracted by the thoughts like what's for the lunch??what's time I need to take the train?? and all just concentrate on the speaker .

2) help the speaker to feel free to speak.
remember the speakers name and concern maintain eye contact with them Nod or use other gesturesencourage them to continue.

3) try to understand other person's point of view.
look at the issues from their perspective. if the speaker say something that you disagree with then wait and construct an argument to counter what is said but keep an open mind the views and opinions of others.

4) avoid personal prejudice.
Don't become irritate and don't let other person's habit or mannerism of speaking distract you. Everyone has a style of speaking like movement of hands, typical accent of speaking. Focus on what is being said and ignore the style of delivery.

5)listen to ideas in N not just words
Maybe one of the most difficult aspect of listening is the ability to link together pieces of the information to reveal the bigger picture of the idea the speaker is trying to convey.
