India is a diversified country, full of culture and has the most varied landforms which attracts enumerate people and tourists who consider themselves privileged and blessed to experience such rich heritage and beauty. With beauty and amusement, sometimes nature takes a toll through deadly natural calamities. These calamities occur due to drought and famine and leaves it's indelible impression on human accomplishments and nature.

One such natural calamity occurred in Uttrakhand, a North Indian state of India known as Uttrakhand flash floods. It was triggered by heavy rainfall and cloudburst on 16th June which hit 12 districts of Uttrakhand.

It is believed that a massive landslide occurred upstream in the north-east region of the Kedar valley. Heavy rainfall occurred at the same time formed a small lake in the north-west of the valley. The debris from the landslide and water from the lake travelled down the slope, channelled into the glacier, and came down to town of Kedarnath.

Landslides and deluge damaged several bridges, roads and structures killing the people who were trapped. Whole Villages and encampments along with market town of Ram Bada, a passage to Kedarnath was obliterated while market town of Sonprayag suffered heavy damage destroying lives of people.

Over 70,000 people were stuck in various flooded regions due to damaged roads and bridges.

Aftermath

•ThePrime Minister of Indiatook an aerial survey of the damaged and affected areas and announced₹10 billion of subvention for disaster relief efforts in the state.

• The Government of Kerala provided 20 million rupees for support and assistance of those in need.

• Government agencies and priests of the Kedarnath temple had a mass cremation of hundreds of dead bodies of the victims.

• Local people from several affected villages near Gangotri helped stranded and homeless tourists and pilgrims, by helping them to send message to their places and by providing food.

• Government cancelled some batches of Kailash Mansarovar yatra due to this tragedy. The Chardham yatra, Badrinath, Kedarnath yatra were cancelled for two years for the repairment of roads and bridges which were completely destroyed.
