We all love food. It's a thing that unites us all despite belonging to different nationalities. But in today’s time, we are in a rush. People don't have the luxury to have a home-cooked meal. That’s where fast food comes to the rescue.

Pop culture relevance

Fast food is very relevant in pop culture. The reason for its popularity is that it has a quick service and preparation time. Also, it is tasty and cheap which appeals to the masses.

Who started it all?

The concept of fast food was started in the United Kingdom in 1860 serving fish and chips in a local shop. But it was the United States of America that actually popularized it.

The Pioneers Of American fast food

White Castle a famous American fast food chain introduced the concept of a limited menu, low cost and speedy hamburger restaurant. Being a pioneer, it opened doors for various fast food chains like McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box and so on.

Upgrading the facilities

With various chains branching throughout the country, fast food chains have provided services like drive-in restaurant, takeaways, home delivery and so on. Thanks to upgradation of technology, we can now order food from our favourite fast food chains via smartphone apps like Seamless and GrubHub.

Still in the game

The food served in fast food chains ranges from burgers to pizzas. They are all easy to hold and that’s what makes them convenient. Studies show that an average American prefers eating at a fast food joint than a fine dining restaurant.

Cons

However, having too much junk food can result in diabetes, Blood pressure and various heart diseases.

Alternative Options

Well, no need to worry about as there are chains offering healthy options. Subway sandwich and Pita Pit’s pita roll are one such option.

No matter how much we try to avoid fast food, we end up eating it. It's a guilty pleasure.
