Although many associate Daughters Day with western countries such as theUS,Canada,Australiaand theUK, there is also aNational Daughters Day in Indiaas well.A day to honour and celebrate the girl child, this day becomes significant especially in a country like ours.Daughter's Day in 2019 is onSunday, September 22, 2019.

Reason behind the celebrate this Day

Every girl or woman needs to be appreciated for her very existence. On this day, family members ensure they make it a special day for their daughters. She could be showered with gifts or just praised for her contribution. Give the girl her freedom to choose what she wants to do in life, without being judged or held back because of her gender. Many governments, across the world, and in India, have recognised the need to celebrate daughters and elevate them so that people see that daughters are no less than sons. This gives the entire family to get together and spend some quality time with the daughter of the house.

In January last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launchedBeti Bachao Beti Padhao(save daughter, educate daughter) programme (BBBP) to address the issue of the skewed child sex ratio.

In his monthly radio address last year, Mr Modi asked fathers across the country to click selfies with their daughters and send them to him, borrowing an idea from a villager in Haryana.

How to celebrate this special Day

Parents can engage in a number of activities to make their daughters feel special, including giving gifts, making cards for them and taking them out for dinner.Dads should consider taking daughters out on a date, whether to a park or for a meal. Moms should share words of encouragement and wisdom. Every parent should make their daughter feel like a princess or the little angel they are! Of course, moms and dads can spent joint family time together with the goal of celebrating what makes daughters so unique and special in a family.
