Also known as: Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), National Health Protection Scheme.

• Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, announced the launch.

• Aims to make interventions in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care systems.

• Increased access to quality health and medication.

• Subsumed the centrally sponsored schemes: Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and The Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS).

• Two major elements: National health protection scheme and Wellness centres.

• NHPS:- • Cover over 10 crore poor families. • Coverage upto 5 lakh rupees per family per year, which will cover almost 50 crore beneficiaries.

• To ensure no one is left out, there will be no cap on family size and age.

• Benefits of this scheme are portable across the country.

• Cashless benefits are available from any public or private impaneled hospital.

• Entitlement based scheme with SECC database deciding on the basis of deprivation criteria.

• To control costs, the payments will be done on package rate.

• Co-operative federalism and flexibility to states.

• States need to have State Health Agency (SHA) to implement the scheme.

• Transfer of funds may be done through an Ascrow account directly.

• NHPS Mission Council (AB-NHPMC) to be set up at apex level chaired by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister.

• In participation with NITI Aayog, an IT platform will be made operational to entail a paperless, cashless transaction.
