We all have heard the word Google Drive in context of storage and file transfer. What exactly is a drive and what does it do? Let us see.
Cloud is the representation symbol used for the internet in a flow chart. Cloud computing was named to the software and storage services available on the Internet. These services may or my not be charged depending upon the source provider and the type of service provided.
There three types of cloud computing on the basis of ownership and openness of the cloud. The three types are Public cloud, Private cloud and Hybrid cloud.
1. Public Cloud
Public clouds are owned by a third party cloud service provider. The software and services provided by the public cloud is open for all to use and the space is maintained and checked by the service provided and can be used through the web browser. The biggest public cloud example is Amazon AWS.
2. Private Cloud
Private cloud by name suggests is owned by a single company or enterprise. The private cloud projects require significant engagement to virtualize the business environment and re-evaluate the decisions about the product endorsed and distributed among the peers. It does not really let the idea of cloud to be used to its fullest. The software or storage here has to paid for the use.
3. Hybrid Cloud
Hybrid cloud is the collation of private, public and community cloud. The hybrid cloud allows different service providers to collaborate and provide services with whatever framework they choose i.e. free or paid. This allows to extend the features of cloud with integration, aggregation and customization of the hardware and software available on theses platform.
We know the types now, but why are organisations turning towards cloud computing? It simply because the six main factors which help decrease the efforts of people on the whole for better work, storage, organize and execute. The six factors are cost, speed, global scale, productivity, performance and security. The expansion of cloud computing is huge and it's growing as the data entering the internet is in trillions of gigabytes.
Now there are four major types of services the cloud provides to its users, basically there are four different structures of computing system i.e. Infrastructure as a service(IaaS), Platform as a service(PaaS), Server less computing, Software as a service(SaaS).
Some of the examples that we use almost everyday are Gmail, Microsoft Office Drive, Apple iCloud and Google Drive.
