Location: 200km north of Arctic Circle, northern Sweden

Spread over 30,000 square foot, the 'Swedish Ice Hotel' is made up of nothing but ice and built annually. Almost 4,000 tons of ice is collected from a nearby Torne River and this ice make up walls of upto 80 rooms.

What's the idea behind making up this ice hotel?
The hotel had a different shape altogether but the same composition of ice. A French artist Jannot Derid held an exhibition in a cylinder-shaped igloo in 1990, which was the beginning of the first ice hotel ever.

It was only till 2016 that this hotel expanded and grew its boundaries to accommodate more people with evenmore huge space to offer.

Here you get to choose rooms adjusted to certain degree to your comfy. An icy room or a regular room, you decide whether you want to spend cold night or a warm one.

The price range to rooms are variable:
In the winter, expect to pay around 1,600 SEK a night for a warm room. On the other hand, it's 4,000 SEK a night for a standard room.

Suites cost 5,500-8,100 SEK a night according to how fancy you want it.
Regular suites or deluxe suites, you get to access sauna in both.
(Note : 1 SEK = 7.27 INR)

Does this hotel only provide room facilities?

The answer is no! This fairly castle has a lot to offer from a vodka ice bar, an ice cinema, ice family rooms and ice suites and an ice chapel where one can practice religions activity.

Is it only about accommodation in this ice hotel? Certainly not!

There are tons of activities that one can indulge in at the hotel area.

  • Ice sculpting : There are many festivals organised across the world that are based on ice sculpting. No doubt, this activity of making art right out of ice itself sounds amazing.

  • Snowmobiling : One can hop around seeing Arctic tundra while cruising through the snow drifts. These snow drifts resemble exactly like sand dunes in a hot desert except its made up of snow here.

  • Safari on horseback : This tour is about getting around tundra on a horse ride. One can spot Swedish moose, foxes, reindeer and hares on this Swedish lapland.

  • Immersing into culture : One can observe Sami, the indegenous people of Sweden. Hearing their history, seeing their culture, feeding a reindeer. What a better way to tour around if not knowing their culture?!

Certainly, this 'Swedish Ice Hotel' is a world of its own! ✨
