The recent years have seen a rise in the average temperature around the world. As a result, the polar ice caps are melting and there is an increase in the sea level. These are the most worrying changes that can be observed. There are other consequences also. Apart from rising temperatures, there has been a lot of change in other climatic conditions. This is due to human activities, resulting in global warming.

Global warming is the heating up of the earth’s surface due to increasing green house gases like methane, carbon dioxide, water vapour, etc in the atmosphere. It is caused due to a variety of human activities.

The consequences of this global warming are:

Extreme weather conditions: Summers will become hotter; there will be more intense heat waves. There will be severe drought conditions and the temperatures will continue rising.

Unseasonal precipitation: Unseasonal rains and thunderstorms have been observed all over the world. These seem to become more and more severe by the day.

Increasing temperatures: Due to this, there have been more droughts, as a result the crop yield has been declining and a lot of wildfires have also been observed.

These are the conditions being observed all around the world. If it continues like this, the Earth will become a place where humans can’t live anymore. It is still not late to reduce global warming. If we can take proper preventive measures, we can surely reduce its consequences.

Some ways to reduce the effects of global warming are:

1.Spread awareness regarding global warming and its consequences.
2.Use renewable energy resources. This not only reduces pollution and global warming, it also helps preserve our non-renewable resources that are depleting at an alarming rate.

3.Sustainable development should be implemented. It is a form of development where the present generation are able to meet their need and desires, by not compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs. By doing so, not only do we keep ourselves in check, we are also seeing that the future generations do not suffer because of our actions.

4.If you want to go somewhere near, either ride a bike or walk. Try to use public transport as much as possible. If you go by car, try car pooling. This saves fuel as well as reduces vehicular emissions.

5.Reduce deforestation, promote afforestation.

Remember that we don’t own this planet, we just borrowed it from our previous generation and we have to give it to the next generation.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.”

Mahatma Gandhi
