Why Cartoons Have Only 4 Fingers???

Well we all love watching cartoons and some are still our favorites like Doraemon, shin Chan, Pokémon (my fav.), Chota Bheem (not my fav.) etc. but did you know why all these cartoons have only 4 fingers and why most of the cartoons wear gloves?

So let’s find it out in this article.

Answer of this fact is quite simple. It saves the time of the drawer who draws the sketches of these cartoons but now you say that why only 1 finger removed why not 2 or 3 it saves a lot of time, right.

Wrong buddy, here is something interesting; here is a walk cycle of a cartoon shown in the image below. For this cycle we have to draw almost 15-16 sketches and every time only legs move and head remains the same and now days we use animation in our laptops and computers so we can easily copy and paste the head to infinite time.

But back in the time when our favorite cartoon Tom and Jerry were launched there is no computer animation and all the cartoons are created on papers and we if don’t need to draw the head of a cartoon in a process but we have to draw the head all the times because we cannot copy and paste it. Quite labor intensive right?

The cartoons we watch are containing the speed of 24 to 30 frames per second because we all want to see the realistic quality.

So if there is an episode of 10 minutes then the cartoonists have to draw almost 10000+ sketches on paper and its quite time devoting.

And in this labor intensive work, cartoonists had to face so many problems while drawing hand and details of hands.

That’s why Disney thought that removing only one finger will save a lot of time and then the time period of episodes will also increase which leads to increase the profit that’s why in Mickey-Mouse there is only 4 fingers and then mostly cartoons launched after Mickey-Mouse has 4 fingers. But here comes a question that why not remove 2 fingers or 3, so according to Disney there are two more reasons, first is if the cartoons have 5 fingers then it look very realistic and then there are less cartoonish feel and second is if there are only 3 fingers then it looks like inhuman like aliens that’s why most of the alien cartoon characters have 3 fingers.

But Why They Wear Gloves

Simple there are so many joints in our hands, hairs, nails and there are some other details also, so to dodge all these details, cartoonists make gloves and it will also give them more cartoonish feel.
