Hey guys, Welcome to my 11th article and I’m sure this article is gonna be very interesting. Here we will figure about some funny and interesting facts about languages.
So let’s start……
Have you ever heard a word “INFLUENCE”? From childhood to till now, our parents always told us to sit with someone that is good in studies and has good hand writing and I think this is right because in exam sitting near to someone intelligent is quite profitable right!! I mean we know that who had influenced our life on a big scale- our parents, friends, teachers and our experiences. But there is one more thing that you forgotten – LANGUAGE.
The most influencing thing in our life is Language. For example; in Hindi and Gujarati, the gender of sun is MALE like in Hindi we say- DEKH, SURAJ KITNA BDA HAI, we don’t say – DEKH, SURAJ KITNI BDI HAI. But in German the gender of sun is feminine. In German they say- DEKH SURAJ KITNI BDI HAI.
Now some of you must be thinking that how does this matter if someone terms the sun as male or female, but how does it matter?
Well it does matter and actually its matter a lot. For example one German and one Spanish man describe the same bridge differently because in German the gender of the bridge is feminine and in Spanish it is masculine. So in German, they use more soft and light words to describe the bridge like Wow! How beautiful, delicate and lovely bridge it is. That’s why they focus more on the art, design and the scripture of the bridge. But in Spanish, they describe the bridge with more strong and hard words like Wow! How strong, powerful and long bridge it is. That’s why they focus more on the size, strength and weakness of the bridge.
These types of researches are done by the Linguists (spends their whole life doing researches about the different languages all over the world).
Let’s discuss one more interesting example- the people of North-Queensland, Australia speaks a language known as Guugu Yimithirr. Yeah, Guugu Yimithirr.
In this language there are no words for denoting left, right, front, back. I mean there is nothing to say like aage, piche, idhr , udhr”. Instead they use the cardinal directions, like we say- see there is a monkey in your left and they say see there is a monkey in your north-west and they say like put the pen in little bit south-west direction. Quite interesting right?
Changing the language makes a big difference and it’s also changes our perspective of seeing the world. The whole way of conversation were changed by just changing the language but unfortunately in our education system, if we make a single mistake of “an and a” or “The and the” we got zero marks so in our situation learning a new language may become a burden not opportunity .
So yeah guys, that’s the end of this article, I hope you enjoyed it.
