Trees are very crucial part of nature. They stabilise the ecosystem and food chain. Trees are the biggest plant in our nature. They play an important role in providing the items necessary for livelihood of living organisms.

First let's talk about what things do trees provide us. List of things given to us by trees is too long to describe. Trees are of great significance for our living. They provide us with all the basic items for our living such as fuel in form of wood and dry leaves. They give us different kind of edible things such as fruits, flowers, medicines and spices. Trees provide shelter to all different kind of birds and animal including humans living in remote areas such as tribal people and even homes of disaster stricken areas are made of wood rather than cement and concrete. They also provide habitat to amazing group of organisms

such as fungi, lichen and insects and different kind of rare species of beetles, lizards, etc and by this they increase the biodiversity of our nature. They provide timber and other wood products, also prevent soil erosion and provide essential nutrients to soil. Also helps in preventing flood.Deciduous trees on river banks can help salmon and other fish by reducing siltation, casting shade and supplying leaves for nutrients. 50% of trees weight are carbon which is stored from air by them. And the most important thing which is a necessity for all living organisms on earth is oxygen which is provided by trees. They inhale carbon dioxide during photosynthesis (process of making food by trees) and release oxygen as a byproduct of this process. They clean our drinking water by the time it reaches ground water.

Trees provide shade from sun, and shelter from wind and rain. In urban areas, they cut down on the urban heat island effect and reduce the need for air conditioning. This will also help reduce carbon emissions which is known as a positive feedback mechanism. Let's suppose a situation that there are no trees in the environment and what would happen. Now without trees we can't even think of living organisms on earth. Without trees earth would be lifeless as the most important thing that supports life (oxygen) would be taken away from us. They are giant filter for earth. Life would begin languishing of trees are not present. They interpret rain. There are many planets without trees and perhaps no life. There would be no sign of life without trees. At last entire ecosystem would die as we are consumers and producers were the first to evolve.

Producers are the base for ecosystem. Without them all the consumers would starve to death. They have power to control rainfall as they take water from ground to make their food and after that they release water to atmosphere by transpiration process. Which leads to rainfall. Without trees rainfall would not be even throughout earth. Topical rain forests are most biodiverse habitats in the world. They moderate climate. Trees stabilise the soil, prevent rapid run-off of rain water, help prevent desertification which can occur due to rapid runoff of rainwater as they would take soil with them. In ecosystems such as mangrove swamps, trees play a role in developing the habitat, since the roots of the mangrove trees reduce the speed of flow of tidal currents and trap water-borne sediment, reducing the water depth and creating suitable conditions for further mangrove colonisation. Thus mangrove swamps tend to extend seawards in suitable locations. Mangrove swamps also provide an effective buffer against the more damaging effects of cyclones and tsunamis.

There are many mythology related to trees. Trees are also worshipped by many tribes . Plants such as tulsi is considered as Goddess in Hindu mythology. In Greek mythology, dryads were believed to be shy nymphs who inhabited trees. People of west africa plant a tree when a child is born. As the tree flourishes the child also flourishes but when the tree thrives then the life of child is considered to be at risk.

So we can conclude that without trees our whole ecosystem would die and a situation without trees is a hypothetical situation. Trees must be protected. Removing trees would remove living beings also from nature. They are the most important part of our ecosystem as they produce. We must plant as much as trees possible.
