Sports needs a lot of qualities to perform good. Every sportsperson inculcate many values like flexibility, endurance, leadership skills etc. Sports make a person physically and mentally strong. It requires proper training and practice. Physical exercises have an impressive effect on the physical development of an athlete. Theseare the qualities that a sportsman should have.

STRENGTH

It is the ability of muscles to overcome resistance. It is a necessary component of physical fitness. It could also be said as the amount of force a muscle group can exert. Strength is measured in dynes or pounds. Sportsman is most essential to have strength. There are different types of strengths like dynamic and static strength. It could be improved with isomatic, iso kinetic and isotonic exercises.

ENDURANCE

Endurance is the potential to sustain an activity. It is an ability to resist fatigue. It is measured by number of repetitions. It is very important in sports. Basic endurance, general endurance and specific endurance are the types of endurance according to the nature of activity. Speed endurance, short term endurance, middle term endurance , long term endurance are the types of endurance according to the duration of activity. It makes sportsperson very self disciplined and self confident.

SPEED

Speed is a very important think in every sport. According to Johnson and Nelson, “ Speed is the rate at which a person can propel his body or parts of the body”. Speed is totally different in different sports.There are many forms of it and they are reaction ability, acceleration ability, movement speed, locomotor ability and speed endurance. Accelerator runs and pace runs are the methods to develop speed runs.

FLEXIBLITY

It is the range of movements of members or joints or it is the range of motion available in a joint. Flexiblity helps in working efficiently, smoothlyand easily. It is even related to genetic factors sometimes. There are various types of flexibility i.e Passive flexibility and active flexibility.

COORDINATIVE ABILITIES

It is also an important component of physical fitness. They are understood as generalized patterns of motor control and relatively stabilized regulation processes. It is very significant in various sports. Orientation ability, coupling ability, reaction ability, balance activity, rhythm ability, adaptation ability, differentiation ability etcare the various coordinative abilities that a sportsperson should possess in himself.


Confidence in your self and a good strong sense of motivation with hardwork are some of other good qualities of a sports person.
