Before you start, you need to gather the equipment you will need to prepare your bath bomb.

BATH BOMB MAKING KIT:

  • Measuring cups

  • A glass bowl (as glass is non-reactive it works best)

  • A whisker or a spatula

  • Silicone mould (DIY bath bomb moulds)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup baking soda

  • ½ cup citric acid

  • ½ cup cornstarch

  • ½ cup Epsom salt

  • 4 teaspoons almond oil

  • 20-30 drops of Essential oil (any pure skin-safe essential oil or fragrance oil)

  • Optional ingredients; food colour (4 - 6 drops of any colour you want), biodegradable glitter and dried flowers (rose, hibiscus, or any other).

DIY RECIPE AND TUTORIAL:

STEP 1
First, start by mixing all the dry ingredients. Take a large glass bowl, add baking soda, cornstarch, Epsom salt, citric acid and other dry ingredients (like flower petals and glitter). Use a whisk to mix them all evenly and make sure no clumps left.

STEP 2
Now is the time for wet or liquid ingredients. In a separate container or bottle, mix the food colour (if you want a coloured bath bomb), essential oils and other oils. Shake well and smell it once. If you are not pleased with the fragrance, you can add extra essential oil but talking about the food colour, do not add more than 4 to 6 drops.

STEP 3
This is the most essential step. Mix the dry mixture with the wet ingredients slowly, one small spoon at a time. Keep whisking the ingredients in order to get the consistency of the mixture like damp sand (not to wet and not to dry).

STEP 4
Now, as the mixture is ready, you need to hurry up before it goes dry. Take the bath bomb moulds and firmly press the mixture into them and pack tightly. Allow the bath bombs to dry and set inside the moulds for at least 24 hours. Bath bombs should be sealed or they will absorb moisture from the air and thus won’t fizz much in a bathtub.

Before you go for a bath, throw one bath bomb in your tub and enjoy the explosion of fizz, colours, and fragrance!

If you are trying to make them for the first time, you may face any of these issues. Here are a few helpful tips.

  • Has the bath bomb crumbled?

While unfolding, a bath bomb may get crumble as it is so dry and not firmly pressed. So, spray a bit witch hazel into it and then press back firmly.

  • Is bath bomb glued to the mould?

This may occur due to excess water and cornstarch. Add baking soda and citric acid in the ratio of 2:1 into the mixture and try pressing it again into the mould.

A relaxing soak after a long hectic day and a handmade bath bombs are all you need to wash away your tiredness. Try making these bath bombs at home and use it and also do not forget to share your DIY making experience with others also.
