Media - Boon Or Bane?

Is Mass media a boon?

Media has a wide reach which target both local and global audience. Mass media shows the strength and weakness of the economy and political decisions of our country. It is a difficult task for media to convey the true news in country like ours where there are a number of castes, religions and languages. Media plays an important role in shaping the personality of people. Media helps society by exposing all the scams, frauds, corruption, murders and much other crime.

Is mass media a bane?

However apart from these advantages media suffers from some drawbacks too. It is affected because of the increase in materialism and consumerism. News is being manipulated to influence the audience and to increase the publicity of their channels. They manipulate the news in a way that they get wide publicity and audience on their channel increase. Unnecessary luridness of an issue may project incorrect information to the public. They keep on focusing on how to make money instead of providing quality of information. They sometimes provide misleading information which diverts young minds towards a wrong path. Wrong information sometimes creates social unrest in many places and brings out the situation of violence. Sometimes because of lack of important news, a simple event catches too much attention.

Media influences the mind of people who read or view the news. It is important or the publisher to publish right news carefully and cautiously.

Media is a boon if it provides right information to society, and is in favour of society, remains unbiased, non-political and socially responsible. But it is bane when it shows the wrong information; misinterpret the facts which can cost the reputation of someone.
