We have all been in love for once, twice or even thrice in a lifetime. But how do we define love? Our definition is the person we are as a lover. Between human beings, love is a relational word. Yes, you can love things that do not love you back—the sky or a mountain or a painting or the game of chess. But the love of other people is directional. We should not get confused that real love is not about egotism; but also about the belief a person has on one mother and shows it.
InFiddler on the Roof, when Tevye asks Golde whether she loves him after a quarter century of marriage, her wry answer is exactly on point:
For twenty-five years I’ve washed your clothes
Cooked your meals, cleaned the house,
Given you children, milked your cow,
She asks then, “If that’s not love, what is?”
LOVE can be performing all sorts of duties and asking nothing in return of it. LOVE is not always about being hired help. LOVE is not at all an obligation that is done with a cold heart. The feeling of being in love must be wedded to the deed. Love can be easily understood if it is expressed in action just like parenting or friendship.
As Love is inherently free we spend nights after nights searching for it and thinking how to get it. Have anyone of you thought of defining something so uncontrollable and versatile? The four letter word is bigger than our whole life. Though we invite love in our life, we do not have full control over how, when and where love starts to express itself.Do you know what is so funny and tricky in love? We can feel it in a variety of states- we feel it when we are happy, we feel it when we are sad, angry and confused.
Love is Chemistry: which is powerful, and have a permanent neurological condition. Once you fall for it you can never have a control over it.
Love is commitment: love is not easy to be defined as it does not exist on one thing.
Love is compatibility:Lastly, love is all about compatibility. Once you are committed you should check that how compatible both of you are which is one of the key factors of being in a relationship. When both of you can share the same values, likes and dislikes, and interests as well. Surely there are situations where “OPPOSITES ATTRACT”, but there must be some common grounds where the root of a relationship can grow. Love and compatibility work hand in hand to have a successful relationship.
