Women Empowerment has become one of the most buzzing topic of discussion all over the world. Now women are working alongside men in all fields of work and are gaining control over their lives and taking their own decisions with regard to their career, education and lifestyle.

But have you ever thought about why women empowerment - the need of the hour?
The need of women empowerment arose due to the gender discrimination prevailing in our society. Though in our culture women are worshippedbut still women face problems which starts from their birth till death.Women are being suppressed by their family members and society for many reasons. They have been targeted for many types of violence and discriminatory practices by the male members of the family and society in India and other countries as well. Wrong and old practices in the society from ancient times have taken the form of well-developed customs and traditions. Women have always been considered inferior to men. Ours is a male dominated society.

But as we are progressing towards development the present scenario is changing. Women Empowerment is not only taking place in the urban areas but also in rural areas .Many government agencies and NGOs have taken up the cause of women empowerment like Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao. Empowering women is the need of the hour as it causes a major hurdle in the progress and development of the country. Not only women but also men should realize their responsibilities and share them. Both are equally important. Women need to change their mindset and voice their issues. They should identify their potential and no longer think of themselves as weak but become psychologically, mentally and physically strong.

Women empowerment will be achieved only when there is change in attitude and mindset of our society with regard to treating women with proper respect, dignity and equality. The rural areas of the country are, by and large, steeped in a feudal and medieval outlook, refusing to grant women equal say in the matters of their education, marriage, dress-code, profession and social interactions.

Although women have made a lot of progress but they still need to fight against many social evils that still prevail and are acting as an obstacle in the process of women empowerment.

And as it is said “A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.“
