The literary definition of Materialism states that it is a type of attitude that one attaches a lot of importance to money or wants to possess a lot of material things.

It is almost impossible not to develop materialistic tendencies in today’s time. Ever since we were kids, we were made to understand that being successful means that you are rich and own a lot of exquisite items and possessions.

Nowadays, it is all about owning things, having the best of all and enjoying the best quality.
Emphasis is given on collecting things because that gives pleasure to people rather than actual experiences or moments.

When people feel upset, they try to make themselves feel better by gifting them something or purchasing a particular commodity for momentary happiness.

If money could buy you happiness, then our house would be the happiest place on earth, but that is not the case at all.

When you consort happiness and materialism, it will not live up to the expectations.
Excessive materialism can lead to hoarding or addictive shopping.
People who prefer materialism over anything seem a lot lonelier since they value mater over people or relationships.

Materialism forces us to selfish, unfriendly and snobbish. It makes an individual feel unsatisfied and ungrateful about life. Such people do not have set ambitions and goals and have a hard time facing others.

If you want to be happy, you need to let go of materialism at some point since thinking about possession of things will never bring you anything but worry.

Materialism was created because people assumed that only by owning and collecting certain things will help you attain ultimate happiness or make you successful. This is a wrong assumption.

It does not have to depend on how rich or poor you are, everyone is a part of this state of mind as each person purchases things in their own capacity. It has created ignorance towards feelings of care for everyone close to you.

Everything, even materialism in moderation is good. Just like others, every individual should possess items depending on their choice, but not because it is termed as the ultimate source of happiness or because you think it proves your success.

Buy that dress or watch if that is what makes you happy. You only live once, so don’t hold back. But remember to do it for the right reasons.

Yours truly,
An impulsive buyer.
