You must have learnt the essay on cow in your elementary schools. We were taught gay humari maata hai from the very beginning. The cow is considered as pious in Hindu religion. It has been passed on to the next generation. The cow is a holy animal as stated in our Hindu mythology. We have our social, economic and religious sentiments especially attached with a cow. Earlier, cow rearing was the major source of livelihood for the people and that's why they started worshipping cow as Goddess. Even today, many holy rituals continue with the presence of a cow.

Recently, our government focussed on the plight of animals by humans. The centre made a law on prohibitin of selling and purchasing of cows across the country. The seller should ensure that the cattle would not pass on to the slaughters. The law was reinforced when the Modi government came into power. The other consequences were ignored. The decision was somewhere unilateral. There is no denying of the fact that this law took a political side in many parts of the country. Some people said it a move to secure their votes in Hindu dominated areas. There was a virtual beef ban across the country. On the contrary, the southern region of the country has the tradition of beef eating festivals. Beef consuming is legal in Kerala. It is totally a disrespect of their culture.

This law affected a lot of things in the country. It has an adverse impact on the livestock market. Milk and leather industry hit a great thunder on their business. Also, it was accused that the state is not consulted over new rules. Farmers are forced to care for old cows.

It should be noticed that according to Article 21, we have the right to life as a fundamental right including the choice of food. Many politicians argue on the fact that it's not a ban on beef rather it is to stop this cruelty towards animals. Do they have any questions on the rampage and mob lynching of the so-called gaurakshakas?

This issue has blown separatism between certain religious groups. This cow campaign has generated a sort of fear in the people as when they would be accused of killing until they will rear them and taking care of the cattles. The people revolted against this law from all over the country. It is very inhumane of the people who want to save animals at the verge of killing an innocent man. There are many loopholes of this law imposed by the government. Instead of uniting people, it has created a rift between them. The cow campaign is more active in solving personal grudges instead of doing social welfare properly.
