A sixteen-year-old boy asked his mother once, "Mom, what are you going to get me for my 18th birthday?"

His mother answered, “Son, that is still a long way."

A year passed and when the boy turned seventeen, he had an accident where he fainted, while playing in the school. His Mom immediately rushed him to the hospital. The doctor informed her, "Madam, your child has a bad heart".

When the child was being carried away in a stretcher, and his mother stood there saying nothing and crying relentlessly, the boy asked his mother, " Mom, what did the doctor tell you?"

As the next year went by, the condition of the boy worsened. His mother was warned by the doctor many times that there is no way that the boy could be saved and eventually the doctor suggested heart transplant surgery as the only solution left.

It was on his 18th birthday, when the boy came home, that he got a letter lying on his bed. It was addressed to him and was written by his mother. He opened it to read.

The letter read,

"Son, if you are reading this letter then I am relieved that you are safe and sound and everything went well. Remember, you once asked me what would I give you on your 18th birthday. I did not have any answer to give you at that time.

Today, I will give you your answer. There have been a heart transplant surgery in your body and I am the donor. You will be living with my heart son and as a mother there is no greater joy than this. Every mother wants their son to live their years of life and I am so happy that you will actually be living my years of life.

I wish I could see you and tell you how happy I was to do this for you, son. You'll live son and you will live well. Whether I am there with you or not, my blessings are always with you. May you get everything you wanted, son. And promise me, that no matter what happens, you will never give up on life because I will be disappointed. Happy Birthday, son.

Love,
Mom."
