With the lack and inevitable end of non-renewable energy sources like fossil fuels which power our cars on the news constantly, everyone seems to be eager to jump onto the energy conservation train and do their own bit to reduce their carbon footprint. It began with companies like Tesla who vouched for this revolution to be accepted and now with the major league companies like Audi, Nissan, Renault and BMW stepping into this playfield, the future looks clearer for the environmentally concerned and opting to ditch your petrol/diesel run vehicle finally seems to be a reasonable choice!
1.Audi E-Tron
When looking at the upcoming cars in the year 2019, Audi definitely seems to have taken the major spotlight with its new E-Tron, Audi’s first electric car launching at the end of 2019. In terms of size, the Audi seems to fit in between the Q5 and Q7, with a ton of new design features making it look sleeker than the other models. It uses two electric motors which produce a total power of 408 hp and 664 Nm of torque. At full power and boost mode, it gives a surprisingly high acceleration of 0-100 in just under 6 seconds. It has a 95kWh battery which takes about 8.5 hr for a complete charge using an 11kW charger. The car will likely be priced at around 1 crore and have a range of 400km.
2.Hyundai Kona EV
This is Hyundai’s first venture into the all-electric car paradigm, it's bound to go on sale this year itself. Its design has clear parallels to the previous Kona but with some tweaks like the lack of exhausts, new alloys and a closed grille. It boasts of a 39.2 kWh which gives it a best in class range of 300km. The electric motor provides a decent power output of 134hp and 395Nm of torque and is expected to be priced at around 25lakh INR.
3.Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
Mitsubishi finds an exclusive niche for itself in this article as it’s a plug-in hybrid SUV, which is to say, that it uses 2L, four-cylinder petrol engine that works in unison with its electric motors which make 164 hp combined. The combined output of the petrol and electric system 203hp. It will take roughly under 7 hours to charge the 12kW Li-ion battery completely which gives a range of 50 km in EV mode. The car is likely to be around the ballpark of 45 lakh INR.
4.Nissan Leaf
With the prestigious tag of “the world’s best-selling EV” under its belt, the company plans to finally release the success in Indian markets soon. The leaf has a 40kWh battery under the hood which gives an output of 140hp and a range between 380-400km, all these numbers are a major improvement from its first-generation model. The Leaf is expected to cost you around 40-50 lakh.
