English In Today’S World

India is the world’s second most populated country after China. Just a fact that most of us should know. But did you know that India is also the world’s second largest English speaking country? India is only second to America in the number of English speakers in the nation. But only 10% of the Indian population are English literates.

English is a language which was introduced to us by the British. A large number schools use the language as a medium for teaching their courses. Many of the people who speak English in India learn from their schools, language classes, peers, workbooks, novels etc. Many people are speaking English since their childhood as their family members or parents communicate in English most of the time along with their mother tongue. In many families or communities English is spoken as a first language and so they are habituated to speaking in English. This is the how the majority of the English speakers in the country learn the language.

It is one of the fastest growing languages in the country and India’s English speaking population is expected to quadruple within the next decade. It is very important nowadays for one to know how to communicate in English fluently in today’s world.

English is one of the most important factors in Globalization, which is the process by Organizations, businesses and corporations start operating on an international scale which helps in developing the economy of a nation, interpersonal relations between different countries and cultures. Since the advent of globalization English speakers have increased manifold. Now this is just one of the main examples why being English literate is so important. Having “a good command over the language” is one of the top priorities is if you want to take your business overseas or go for higher studies abroad or securing a good job out of the country or even in India and for many other things. Even majority of schools in India use English language as a medium to teach their courses.

People, nowadays, are making use of media like Television, newspaper, internet etc. for mastering the langauge. One of the best ways to master a language is by just listening and repeating by which babies learn to speak. And this technique can be best brought into use by watching movies or television shows or listening to English commentary by which you will start improving without even knowing that you have. There are a lot of good TV shows and movies in English which can watch and learn at the same time. It saves you the hassle of “studying” for it.You can have a good command over your language in relatively short period of time without putting in much effort for it or spending much and having fun whilst learning.
