It is not a new concept for people of India, back when British used to rule India Government service Indians who served in civil services during colonial rule were considered somewhat equal status to the white people by the unjust government. authority and royalty were associated with government job ,it promoted the stereotype that people in the government jobs are successful and effective people, whichis true to some extent., people after school and college used to apply for government job because back in early 1980s-70s there were more opportunities in government service jobs.

People apply for government service due to various benefits such as stability , timely income, additional allowances, housing facilities, Among these stability being the main factor for Indian families as back in that time people had a mindset to secure their future and look after their family as long as they are in service . Modern India has been introduced with private sector offering more jobs than government job as now the opportunities have been reduced lower as more and more people are getting aware of various government competition exams, while institutions has been established to prepare for various bank exams, civil services , upsc and the era of internet has given an extra edge for people to know better about how to apply and the way to prepare for government service although presumptionsand hypes still exist which make this sector cut throat competition.

So Most of all middle class Indian families who live in the city are placed in government sector , so they have given their hard work and education to government service either due to the fact that they wanted to support their family financially or either they have been brainwashed with values such as “ Working in government service is a prestige and status symbol”or “ to secure your life you must get placed in government sector” , While one cannot disagree with the fact that government job is secure and stable as in private income depends directly upon the employer as well as the firm you are working with. But the problem comes up when families expect eagerly with their children while they are applying for govt exams , Due to more people filling up for government service there have been reports of forging and leaking of exam papers, placements via bribery, institutions and many agencies are making business out of these circumstances, Which has also led to many deserving students to commit suicide as they give their best to keep the promises of their family or due to their own ambition of being in civil service getting lost. Modern youngsters have felt insecure while managing to get a good job in private sector as families are not satisfied with them struggling and working in a pressurized environment, since Indian families compare their children against their relatives or neighbor’s children who got into government service. In modern era one must strive to achieve their individual career goal rather than forcing themselves into government sector due to family obligations.
