10th is an important class for everyone. you get to choose you subjects you will be studying the next two years, your career and your path.

Students opting for science usually opt for engineering nowadays since it is a professional degree and also a very promising course. Students opting for biology go for mbbs to become doctors and those of commerce and arts enter into CA/ teaching/law. This is a common misconception in our society. When you tell your relatives that you have opted for science, you might hear: “ok , so you want to be an engineer? "

But we have to understand this that these aren't the only options available in our streams. Opting for science doesn’t always mean that you have to become an engineer. There are tons of other professions, paths that one might enter.

Engineering though has lost its value since everyone is opting for it and doing it from even the smallest and non reputed institutions. Nevertheless students opt for it, enroll in coaching instituted and sit for the big "JEE" exam every year. Doing btech after opting for science is not easy but many don’t admit it or it would lead to embarrassment in the society. What we don’t understand is that not everyone has the same iq in our society. Btech is more of a practical degree in which you have to explore, innovate, go on field trips, discover and apply your theoretical knowledge practically.developing soft wares, models, machines, understanding machines is what comes under btech .

On the other handthere is one more option : Bsc. Yes, Bachelors in Science often known as B.Sc. was another popular degree among science students, but not anymore. I was even shocked when some science students did not even know what bsc is about. Bsc is basically a theoretical course, not a professional degree and unlike btech it is of 3 years only. The older generation used to opt for bsc and not btech in those times. But now the trend is cut out. Our society has thinking that if a person is doing Bsc rather than Btech, he/ she aren’t capable of doing a good course/ there might be some financial problem.

But we have to improve this mindset. Reality is those students who are more interested in research and theoretical part of the subject would perform better in a normal bachelor’s degree rather than opting for engineering to explore the practical aspects. it should not be that he/ she is weak if they are not doing a professional course. We have to break free of this orthodox and should choose the subject which is right for us.

The kind of profession you choose should depend entirely on your interest and your passion and should not be affected by what people will say. After all “log kya kahenge, logo ka kaam h kehna”!
