Alarms are painful. Deadlines are your constant nightmare. You are always making mental to-do lists and panicking about how you have little to no time left to finish them. Do you relate? If yes, welcome to the life of a 21st century college student.

As a college student myself, I am constantly stressed out about all the things I have to do, places I have to be and the thoughts of all the social life I’m missing out on. Very often, I feel myself stumble of a staircase I have painstakingly climbed only to find myself at the bottom all over again. I am here to tell you that it’s okay. We have all been there as part and parcel of our college life but is that it? Is there nothing we can do about it? Trying to figure out how to calm my own stress levels, I have found out that following certain tips that are listed below definitely help.

1.Make a Time-table
I know it sounds like a thing you would love to leave back in school but it’s a tool most successful people swear by. Detail this table with important deadlines. This will help you plan out your work better and keep up with your tasks. Moreover, checking items of this time-table as you are done with them is rewarding by itself as it shows you the massive amount of work you have accomplished.

2.Identify a passion and keep aside at least an hour or two for it every day

It could be a sport or it could be an instrument. If it makes your mind feel like its clearing up every time you indulge in it, that’s your essential feel-good mechanism right there! Constantly working on your assignments and readings could strain your mind and stop your creative juices from flowing. Hence, it is important to be engage in an activity other than academics.

3.Get away
If you are the kind of person who spends hours in the library holed up with your books and laptop, pack your bag and get out of there! Constantly working in the same environment pushes you into a cocoon which will stress you out further. Ditch your work for a while, get out of a work-environment and set out. Explore a neighbourhood, hit up a café or a park or catch a movie.

On other days, getting out of your usual work environment and moving spots or locations help too!

4.At least six hours of sleep

Sleep comes rare to a college student but its importance does not fizzle out. Remember I said “at least” since an individual requires 8 hours of sleep to lead a healthy life. Here, however, buddy to buddy let’s begin with a modest 6 hours of sleep.

I hope these tips have been useful and help you manage your stress levels. Remember, its normal and there should be no shame in sharing a good rant or confiding in your friends.
