Nothing can be as wonderfully relaxing as a walk through nature. Be it just a quick stroll or a long evening walk, striding past the dusky pink hues, a tumble down a garden is sometimes all we need. Being blessed with lots of bounties of nature as it is, India is also abundant in some of the most beautiful and royal gardens in the world. Let's list out a few of them, that I personally think are my select favourites.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden - Srinagar
Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden adds to the natural beauty of Srinagar. Nestled on the foothills of Zabarwan Range, the largest tulip garden in Asia presents a stunning view of the Dal Lake. The seven terraced garden was built with the intention to promote tourism and floriculture in Kashmir. Once known as the Model Floriculture Center, the Tulip Garden of Srinagar is home to varied species of flowers like daffodils, hyacinths and ranunculus. However, tulips cover the major area of the space. A walk through these sweet smelling flower beds will make you want to linger. A major highlight of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is the Tulip Festival that is celebrated every year. It is one of the best reasons that will compel you to visit this garden.
Rock Garden - Darjeeling
The Rock Garden, also known as the Barbotey Rock Garden, is located around 10 kilometres away from the Darjeeling town, in a valley down below. Ganga Maya is another park area located further down. As you take the right turn from the main Hill Cart Road of Darjeeling towards the Rock Garden, you know that you are in for nature's treat. In about 25 minutes, this narrow winding downhill road descends by several thousand feet to a valley where the rock garden is located. There are sharp hairpin bends on the way and the gradient of the road is very steep. However, the view of the landscape and the mountain range from the road is unparalleled. If you love scenic views, I am sure you will ask the cab driver to stop on the way several times for photo shoots.
Brindavan Garden - Mysore
The Brindavan Gardens, located in the Mandya district of Karnataka, just 21 Km away from Mysore, is the abode of nature. Built across the notable river of India, Kaveri, it took around five years to complete the project. The endless lush green terrace gardens and prolific plants that are present in abundance all around give a soul-soothing sight. Spread over an area of 60 acres, the Brindavan Garden makes you feel overwhelmed right from the entrance with its charming rose gardens and flowerbeds. Constructed in 1932 by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail, the Brindavan Garden is visited by millions of tourists every year.
A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness; it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.
