In the recent years the popular trend amongst every teenager and young adult is to have a physique of professional athletes, bodybuilders or Bollywood actors and with this ever growing trend there’s been a spurt of health and fitness clubs, gyms and the supplement industry. It has become a lucrative source of income for the gym owners, the middleman in supplement retailing and the manufacturers. The core problem in this scenario is the incompetence and the incomplete knowledge of the gym ‘gurus’ blindly followed by the youngsters. They inculcate a very mislead notion amongst the youngsters that it’s all in the ‘magic’ of these fancy supplements hence creating a weak foundation. No one gives importance to the most basic thing i.e. nutrition rich diet and long term hard work. Turning trend into a lucrative business isn’t a bad operation but things get ugly when the young minds are manipulated and misguided to buy and consume all types fancy supplements that their armature bodies aren’t even ready to accept properly and this consequently leads to many health related problems like kidney stones.

The damage is way more when there is a wide spread retail of duplicate products made from cheap raw materials that does more harm to the consumers than any good. The reason behind the wide spread duplicated products is the expensive international big brands that become even costlier when imported. The demands of middle-class gym goers and young athletes create huge demand windows that let the harmful duplicate copies come, mix and grow. Although a few Indian brands have effective authenticity checking measures but their products are discouraged by many retailers because the are unable to get undue profit cuts thus they conspire to defame these Indian products claiming that that they are cheaply processed and are no cost effective in terms of results.

Then there’s the greatest evil of all in this business, ‘steroids’. The use of steroids in professional bodybuilding is decades old, and not only the youngsters but the intermediate and even the professionals are vulnerable of being it’s victim. Steroids are primarily available in two forms, oral or invectives. Both are highly dangerous and are hazardous to health without proper guidance and knowledge the blind use of these can even cause death. The bitter truth is that steroids are still being widely used and promoted and young bloods are getting toxified resulting in casualties.

It’s time to wake up and start questioning these so called gym ‘gurus’ and also educate and make people aware as well as making strong and healthy foundation and make the youngsters understand that bodybuilding is sport that like any other sport require a lot of hard work and discipline and is not about following the hollow trends it should be lifestyle because in the end staying healthy and fit is more important than getting bigger biceps or leaner waist while jeopardizing one’s own health.
