These Movies Will Knock Your Socks Off!

Thrillers, plot twists, mystery: these are all words I like to hear! The excitement and shock that comes from watching a brilliantly written thriller with great performances is something I’m sort of addicted to. I know there are many others out there who agree with me. Little known to us however, is that the reason why we enjoy these thrillers is a twist in itself.

Psychological thrillers allow us control of feelings of fear by slowly building up nail biting suspense. As we enter the minds of ambiguous characters with questionably morality the talent of the director really shines as they create moods of anxiety, fear and anticipation. We basically become the characters, desperate to know the truth. With a final shocking twist, the tension is replaced with a feeling of relief and joy.

If it’s not executed properly though, it becomes annoying to watch. So, I, a thriller addict, am here to recommend some of my favourite thrillers with plot twists that will blow your mind!

1.The Silence of the Lambs: This was the first thriller I ever watched and one that will always remain my favourite. The story of a young detective, Claire, hunting down her first serial killer with the help of the infamous cannibal Hannibal Lector, played by Anthony Hopkins, will leave goose bumps on your skin. I don’t know what’s creepier; the brilliant performance by Anthony Hopkins or the weird relationship between Hannibal and Claire!

2.The Devotion of Suspect X: Based on the best-selling book with the same name written by Kiego Higashino, this movie really makes you think you’ve figured everything out. The story begins when Yasuko’s violent ex-husband shows up at her doorstep to extort money; things quickly escalate resulting in Yasuko and her daughter killing him. Following the story of a divorced single mother, her daughter and a middle school mathematics teacher in love with the mother, this movie really pushes the limits of what a perfect crime can be.

3.The Others: Grace (Nicole Kidman) moves into a new house with her two children, who are photosensitive, in Jersey. When unexplainable things begin to happen, Grace believes that her house is haunted. This story of a desperate mother trying to make sense of life has one of the best plot twists I have ever read and seen.

4.Shutter Island: Let’s just say, Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Ruffalo as detectives, working together to solve mysterious happenings in a psychiatric hospital on a deserted island is something you should 100% experience.

5.Psycho:A classic in the thriller genre, Alfred Hitchcock set the standards of what a thrilling film should truly be. The twisted story of the Bates Motel will make you question everything. The brilliant acting really seals the deal as you feel the thrill rise up from your toes to your throat.

The list could go on and on! This genre is perfect for those who want to feel a rush of adrenaline without the work out!
