On 21st April Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 93rd birthday which made her the longest reigning monarch in the history of the world. Although a lot has been said and written about Her majesty, there is still a lot that people do not know about her. Let us have a look at some lesser known facts about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II-

(1) She did not spend her childhood in a certain expectation of the crown
Until her uncle King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry an American socialite Wallis Simpson after which her father became the king, Elizabeth was a relatively minor royal.

(2) She is married to her cousin

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are third cousins and have known each other since she was 10 years old.

(3) Her coronation was televised and she was not very happy about it.

Queen Elizabeth II was crowned after her father’s death and her coronation was televised against her wishes. Prince Philip who was the chairman of the Coronation commission wanted the coronation to be televised.

(4) The Queen does not need a passport

Queen Elizabeth is one of the most travelled head of states. All the passports in England are issued in her name and hence she does not need one (WOULDN’T IT BE WEIRD IF SHE WERE TO SIGN HER OWN PASSPORT?).

(5) She does not need a driver’s license either
Again all the driver’s license are issued in the name of the Queen which is the reason why she is not needed to keep a driver’s license.

(6) Her nicknames include LILIBET and CABBAGE

As a child the queen was unable to pronounce her name and evidently used to call herself LILIBET which eventually became her nickname. Also, reportedly her husband Prince Philip call her Cabbage out of love.

(7) She had eight bridesmaid on her wedding.
Queen Elizabeth-II had eight bridesmaids on her wedding which include- Princess Margaret,Princess Alexandra of Kent, Lady Caroline Montagu-Douglas-Scott, Lady Mary Cambridge, Pamela Mountbatten, Margaret Elphinstone, and Diana Bowes-Lyon.

(8) She is the owner of all the swans and dolphins in the UK waters

According to a statute from 1324 which reads “Also the King shall have whales and sturgeons taken in the sea or elsewhere within the realm.” The monarch is entitled to own all the swans and dolphins in the water of United Kingdom(Weird right!)
