World's Biggest Air Purifier - Built By China

People today have forgotten that they really are a part of nature, destroying it will destroy them too!

China is winning the battle against pollution in big cities by building its first and world's largest air purifier, in its city Xian in Shaanxi province. It is a 100 m high air purification tower which is claimed to be the world's largest till yet!

The Xian smog tower project was launched by the academy in 2015. The construction of this project was completed in 2018 at a development zone in the Chang’an district. The purpose of the project was to find an effective way and a low cost method to artificially remove pollutants and other harmful gases from the atmosphere. The cost of the project is not disclosed till yet

why city Xian was choosen?

Xian is a much polluted city of china. In winter, Xian experiences a heavy pollution in the city because much of the city's heating is related on coal (as fuel).

The head of research department Cao Junji also claimed that it improved the air quality of upto 10 square kilometres and was able to combat air pollution. The tower is able to produce around 10 million cubic meters of fresh and purified air.

How does it works?

This whole setup is covering an area of about half the size of soccer field. It works through the greenhouses. The polluted air is sucked and collected into the glass houses and then heated up by the solar energy. After heating up, this hot air starts rising up which is then made to pass through multiple layers of cleaning filters. This system also works in the winter months. The coatings on the greenhouses enable the glass to absorb solar radiation at a much higher efficiency.

Cao's team set up more than a dozen pollution monitoring stations in the area to test the tower's impact.

The average reduction of pollution or the polluted air was seen as in pm(picometers) 2.5 pm which were the fine particles in smog, deemed most harmful to health which fell 15 percent during heavy pollution. Now china is planning to set up much larger air purifier in the city.
