Objectives of ‘Skill India’

The main goal of Skill India is to create opportunities and scope for the advancement of the talents and capabilities of the Indian youth.

The new programme aims at providing skill development to 500 million youth of India by 2020, covering all the towns and cities. Various schemes and programs are also planned to achieve the aim.

Features of ‘Skill India'

The priority is to skill the youths in such a way so that they get employment and also to encourage and to better the entrepreneurship in the nation. Provides training, support and supervision for all occupations that were of old type like carpenters, cobblers, welders, blacksmiths, nurses, tailors, weavers etc. More priority is given on new skill development areas like real estate, transportation, textile, gems and jewellery industry and designing, banking, tourism and various other sectors, where skill development is inadequate or not present.

The teaching and training programs are aimed for the international level so that the youths of our country can not only meet the domestic demands but also of other countries like the US, Japan, China, Germany, Russia and those in the West Asia and other western countries.. Another exceptional characterstic of the ‘Skill India’ programme is to create a hallmark called ‘Rural India Skill’, so as to institutionalise and certify the training process.

Programmes would be initiated for definite age groups which can be like language and communication skills, life and positive thinking skills, personality development skills, management skills, behavioural skills, including job and employability skills. The course procedure of ‘Skill India’ is contemporary, which would include group discussions, brainstorming sessions, practical participation, case studies etc.

The idea is to raise spirit and determination, improve productivity and give guidance through proper skill development. Skill development facilitate the youths to get blue-collar jobs. Development of skills, at a young age, at the school level, is very important to channelise them for proper and suitable, according to their interest, job opportunities.

There should be a balanced growth in all the sectors and all jobs should be given equal importance. Every job candidate is given training in skills to lead a proper and decent life.
