According to the Oxford dictionary, feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes." So basically, feminism does not mean "female over male" as many misunderstand, but gender equality. Feminism is a movement working towards providing women with the same rights as men. It is a movement trying to destroy double standards against both genders. When we talk about feminism, we don't only say "women are not necessarily always delicate and sensitive", we also say "men can cry without being judged". Feminism is a term that might put off many into thinking that it is a statement towards female domination even though it is not. The term is coined so because it is the women whose rights are yet to reach the level of rights that the male gender enjoys. Feminism is about uplifting the oppressed to the same degree as the uplifted, not to a higher pedestal.

Teens are growing more and more aware of what's been going on in the world to the point that now feminism is a trend that everyone wants to show off about. Many might not even entirely know what it means, but they wear badges of being a feminist nonetheless. Support is good, however, one must always know and believe in what they are supporting. It's necessary for men and women to know what exactly the term means and why it is so important to support it. Males that say they are feminists, but post misogynistic comments on girl's photos are not helping. Females that say they are feminists, but only choose to support feminism when it is convenient to them are not helping as well. When teens stand up for a cause, they can be aggressive and persuasive. They can make a positive change. They can really help when they want to, but it helps when they mean it and not when they fake it.

More teens are understanding the real meaning of feminism as the days go by and the protest grows bigger and better with dedicated believers and of course, social media websites. There is still a long way to go until both genders can live without being judged or suppressed, but everything is definitely so much better than how it used to be. With anti-abortion laws in Alabama, there have been major downfalls, however, each time, feminists all across the world come back stronger and bite back harder. It is time for women to be able to make their own laws. It is time, as Taylor Swift says to build a society "where boys can play princesses and girls can play soldiers" without the bat of an eyelash.
