Gangtok is the largest as well as the capital of Sikkim. It is one of the most beautiful tourist destination. It is famous not only for monasteries and mountains but tourists can also enjoy adventure activities like mountain biking and paragliding. It is one of the cleanest cities of India and is beautifully maintained as well.

1. Nathula Pass
Nathula Pass is situated on the Indo-Chinese border and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in India. It is the most significant place which connects Sikkim with china’s Tibet autonomous region with an amazing experience and breathtaking view. With a height of about 14450ft. above sea level, the Nathula Pass ensures magnificent view of mountain. Visiting the border temple at sherathang and indulging in shopping is one of the best experience as well. Second highest golf couse in the world at kulup san is like a cherry to the cake.

  • Nathula Pass is only open for Indian visitors for 5 days a week including Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and closed on Monday &Tuesday for two days.

2. Tsomgo Lake
The Tsomgo Lake is one of the few high-altitude lakes in India situated on the Gangtok - Nathu La highway. It is a very important and magnificent tourist destination with breathtaking scenic beauty. It is a place which should be in the itinerary of every traveler. The prayer wheel and Shiva temple on its shore are a must visit as well. A sanctuary named as kyongnosla alpine sanctuary which is an additional attraction near the lake.

  • Tsomgo lake is only open for 5 days a week including Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and closed on Monday & Tuesday for two days. Tourists are allowed to see the international border from close such that you can see Chinese soldiers on the other side.

3. Namgyal Institute of Tibetology
NIT preserves the glorious past of the country, the religion and its precious culture with utmost dedication and that shows in the excellent collection in the museum and the library which are the main attractions here. It also reflects the traditional Tibetan architecture and gives insight into Buddhist culture. it has a museum which exhibit cloth painting, manuscripts, ritual objects and human bone trumpets. The place also has stores to buy jewellery, mementos and more.

  • It is all days of the week except Sunday and the timings are 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

4. MG Road
It is the heart of Gangtok which includes shopping centers, restaurants, food joints and hotels lined up. The main thing to notice is the cleanliness of this place and the entire area is smoking free, and free of vehicle traffic. Some famous places to eat at MG Road are “Baker’s Café” and “9’INE Native Cuisine”.

  • It is open for all days except Sundays and the timing is 08:00 am to 9:00 pm.

5. Seven Sister Waterfall
Seven Sisters Waterfalls comprises of seven different waterfalls amicably arranged side by side on a wide rugged cliff which seems distinct when looked at from a distance. This famous waterfall is situated at a distance of 32 kilometers from Gangtok on the Gangtok-Lachung Highway. It is one of the most visited place in the region. Rainy season is the best time to visit this place. The view attracts the photographers, nature lovers and tourists.

  • It is open for 24 hours.

6. Hanuman Tok
It is a beautiful temple dedicated to lord Hanuman and maintained by the Indian army. The sight of Kanchenjunga which is the third highest peak of the world and view of valley is mesmerizing. It is one of the best place for a photographer. The beauty of the place during sunrise is beyond description. The spot is very peaceful and perfect for meditation

7. Rumtek monastery
The Rumtek Monastery is one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim, perched on top of a hill 23 km from Gangtok. It is one of the most important site for almost every Buddhist. After climbing the monastery one can see a great view of the Gangtok town. The architecture of the place is also a major attraction. The halls of the monastery feature large hand painted and intricate wall murals, thankas, silk paintings and statues, all of them startling in their depth and beauty. Besides this, the architecture of the monastery is one of the finest in the world.

  • The timings are 10 am to 5 pm during winter and 8 am to 5 pm during summer and is open every day.
