HAPPY ENDING

The wedding ceremony was beautiful.
My daughter Jane, got married.
I sit by the lake watching the helpers take down the decoration.
He comes by.
He sits without asking. He didn’t have to, anyway.
We don’t talk.
I was counting my breath.
The flowers were taken off, the chairs were being folded.
It was a perfect day.
My wedding day flashed in front of my eyes.
A simple one, nothing fancy, just the rings.
Not exactly a dream wedding. It was a rough time.
I push away the thoughts.
Don’t want to ruin the mood.
I look at him.
Still no talking.
A child hops by picking up the fallen petals.
The child’s happiness made me smile.
I see him watching the kid.
He still doesn’t give a glance.
It was fine. At least he was here.
I wonder what he is thinking.
Maybe about the ceremony.
Maybe about the kid.
Or maybe he just wants coffee.
I was lost in my thoughts when he turned towards me.
He smiles. His dark brown eyes distracted me every time.
I hold his hand. He didn’t deny.
He wanted to tell something.
I could sense the passion.
People had left and the place became quieter.
I could hear the breeze as it touched our faces.
He tucks my hair behind my ear.
But the wind kept making his attempts futile.
I didn’t care. I just wanted to know what was going on inside his mind.
I slightly press his hand to let him know I’m waiting.
He looks into my eyes and leans towards me.
Keeping a straight face, he says, “Let’s get married.”
Right then jane interrupted us. I turn towards her.
She screams from a distance, “Mom, Dad, come fast. The photographer's ready!”
He stands up, pulls me towards him and whispers in my ear, “Let’s get married. Again.”
“Let’s have the dream wedding you had always wished for. "
I blushed, the same way when he had proposed to me 25 years back. But a bit more this time.
He smiles and hugs me tightly. I hug him back tighter.
“I love you”, he said. I was too happy to reply.
Our daughter stood there, looking contently at us,
Dreaming of her own “happy ending” to the beautiful journey that she had just begun today.
