There have been many instances where a single decision has changed the total course of the match, and has received severe criticism from all over the world. Here are top 3 most controversial matches:-

3) England vs South Africa( 1992 World Cup)

The rain curtailed match was made 45 overs for each side. That was debut tournament of the Proteas led by Kepler Wessels. Batting first England posted a very decent score of 252, courtesy of Graeme Hick's 86. In reply, South Africa were 232 for 6 in the 43rd over, and 22 runs were required of 13 balls when rain intervened again. After the rain when game started again South Africa needed to score 22 runs of 1 ball via D/L method. The game gained immense criticisn from all over the world.

2) Carlton & United Tri series

The eighth match of the Corlton & united tri series between Sri Lanka and England was one of the most controversial match ever. During the English innings , the unpire Ross Emerson no balled the legendary Sri lankan offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan twice suspecting he was throwing the ball. Though it was later cleared that Muralitharan's bowling action is clear and legal. At that point of time raged with umpire's decision Sri Lankan captain left the field with his team momentarily. Sri Lankan team was eventually recalled and they managed go chase down a stiff target of 303 successfully, with Muralitharan hitting the winning runs.

1) 2019 World Cup final

The match between England and New Zealand has to be one of the best yet controversial match in the history of cricket. The lord's pitch had everything that a thrilling encounter requires. Batting first New Zealand managed to put up a score of 241 for the loss of 8 wickets, courtesy of Henry Nicolls and Tom Latham. Among England bowlers Woakes& Plunkett managed to pick 6 wickets between them. While bowling New Zealand had a great start picking up in form Jason Roy cheaply. In no time England was tottering at 86 for the loss of 4 wickets, when the partnership of 110 runs between Stokes and Buttler managed to pull England out of danger. After Buttler departed at 196- 5 another mini collapse took place as England were 227-8 with Stokes holding one end. In the fourth ball of the 50th over Boult bowled a full toss to Stokes. He mistimed it to midwicket and was desperate for the second run. Guptill the fielder threw the ball towards the keeper but a desperate dive from Stokes saw fhe ball hit Stokes's bat and goes to the third man boundary. As a result 4 runs were there as overthrow. Umpire gave 6 runs from that ball 2 from running between the wickets and a biundary from overthrow. Rules says that if the batsmen had not crossed each other when the fielder threw the ball that run won't be considered. A mistake from umpire saw England manage to draw the match.

In the super over Stokes and Buttler manage to score 15 runs with the help of couple of boundaries. In reply New Zealand too scored 15 runs with a solo six in the super over and tied the match. Hitting more boundaries means England were declared as champions of World cup. This rule of ICC faced severe criticisms from all over the world and even fron the legends if the game. And also that wrong overthrow decision of umpire were heavily trolled and criticised.
