We all know that our eyes are the most delicate parts of our body which open our vision to the various colours of life. But we forget to care for them in return. Well, it’s still not too late! Check out below the 10 easy tips to take care of your eyes!
1.Wash your hands frequently
Washing your hands frequently keeps away bacteria and prevents them from entering your eyes as you wear your contact lens or eyeglasses.
2.Don’t rub your eyes
Your hands are exposed to endless dust, dirt and bacteria. They get easily transferred to your delicate eyes when you rub or even touch them and cause irritation and infection. So, avoid touching your eyes.
3.Stay hydrated
Stay adequately hydrated for the overall welfare of your body, including your eyes. It will prevent your eyes from drying up or getting irritated.
4.Shield your eyes from the sun and germs
Exposure of your eyes to the UV rays of the sun raises your risk for photokeratitis, cornea sunburn and age-related macular degeneration. So, besides for the sake of fashion, wear your sunglasses to actually protect your eyes from sunlight as well as dust, dirt and germs. Other alternatives are UV-protected contact lenses or eyeglasses, hats, visors and caps.
5.Maintain a balanced diet
Omega-3, Beta-carotene, Lycopene, Lutein and Vitamins A, C and E are most important to maintain your eye health. Ensure yourself to have those foods in your diet chart which are rich in these nutrients.
6.Look at green
Try to wake up early every morning and walk bare-footed on the grass in a park while constantly looking at the grass. The colour ‘green’ is good for your eyes. It has a calming effect on them.
7.Avoid smoking
Smoking makes you more prone to age-related macular degeneration, cataract and other eye problems. Smoking may also damage your optic nerves, which can affect your vision gradually.
8.Keep proper room-lighting and monitor distance
Make sure that you have adequate but diffused room-lighting. Too bright focused lights can cause glare, and stress your eyes a lot. Besides, keep your computer monitors at an arm-length distance away from your eyes and about 20 degrees below your eye-level. This prevents straining of your eyes.
9.Use proper eye-makeup
Go for safe brands for your eye-makeup products. Ditch all those eyeliners, mascara and eye shadows that cause irritation or allergic reactions to your eyes. Always apply a make-up remover before you go to bed, to prevent bacterial growth from the remaining make-up in your eye areas. Also, don’t forget to clean your eye-makeup brushes regularly.
10.Get sufficient sleep
Just like your other body parts, your eyes also need to rest. This happens during your sleep. So make sure to have sufficient sleep to rest and revitalise your eyes.
