Bollywood is the remedy to most of our agonies and there is one movie that caters to every ailment( read mood). If life hasn’t been treating you well, and all you can find the strength to do is lie in bed and watch something, Bollywood comes to your rescue. For all those people who just want to relief the burden a bit and indulge in a light-hearted cinematic experience, here is a list of 5 Bollywood movies that would make you feel good.

1) Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

I’d pick this movie over anything, any day. This movie and Ayan Mukherjee gave us some of the most relatable characters and the trips and fun Bunny, Naina, Aditi and Avi have reminds us of our own friend group. The movie also talks about the priorities of life in unambiguous terms and while Bunny may want to conquer the world, at the end he walks away teary eyed with a “Re Kabira tu na ja” playing in the background. This movie talks of love, friendships and passion and hence is assured to make you forget grim realities.

2) Dear Zindagi

A Goa based movie and Alia Bhatt at the centre of it. This is one of the few good movies in Bollywood which actually addresses mental heath and establishes it as something pretty normal. Kiara is a girl troubled by abandonment issues which are deep-rooted in her childhood and hence, she distances herself from every possible relationship. However, she seeks counsel from Dr Kabir Khan, played by Shahrukh and eventually finds her way. What charms the audience of this movie is the simple and lucid storytelling and how relatable a girl like Kiara can be, which Alia portrays beautifully.

3) Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

A cult classic in recent times. Zoya Akhtar’s story telling has always been effortless and she does no different in this movie. The eternal trio played by Farhan, Hritik and Abhay, coursing through the roads of Spain and through life alike, overcoming challenges on their way works as an emollient for every aching soul. The idea of a road trip is a classic formula, put together in a new light. This movie will make you laugh, cry, feel and learn and in the end you’d feel just fine, even if things didn’t work out the way they were meant to, just like Kabir.

4) Wake Up Sid

Another cinematic marvel by the duo Ayaan Mukherjee and Ranbir Kapoor. A coming of age film where Sid, a spoilt brat living off his dad’s credit card and studying for the sake of his dad’s incentives, one day decides to leave the house and work his way through life. A brilliant portrayal of the girl next door by Konkana Sen Sharma, who plays the telltale character of the girl with big dreams enclosed in her big eyes. This is undoubtedly one of the best Bombay movies which portrays the city in all its simplicity and glory.

5) 3 Idiots

They say to keep the best for the last and I did. You’d probably end up crying a lot more than you imagined at the beginning of the movie, no matter how many times you have watched it before. This movie brought in a change in the Indian mindsets obsessed with a career in IIT and medical. It is like a roller coaster ride of emotions and addresses far more issues than the obvious ones. In the end all you would wish is to have the bond of friendship Raju, Farhan and Rancho had but you’d feel better anyway. This movie also teaches us some invaluable life lessons.

These are my top 5 picks for whenever I feel morbid and gloom. Let me know which movies you watch to feel better. Thanks for reading.
