Health relates to your physique while happiness is concerned with your intellect and heart. Some of us may not be ready to accept the inter-dependence of the two on each other but scientists with their evidential researches have shown that positive emotions makes life healthier and longer. But just filling up happiness in yourself without actually removing those stressful elements from your life is not enough.

We all crave for happiness of ourselves and our loved ones. But many of us get only temporary happiness in our live which is materialistic. Our circumstances decide only 10 per cent of our happiness rest depends on our attitude. Here are some of the ways to find true happiness in your life.

Pathways to happiness

1. Using your strengths

Hone your strengths and skills to lead a happier life. If you are inquisitive just think how happy you will get if you learn new things and new activities. Or if you are a leader, you will feel contented if you take upon another challenge or project. Only knowing your strengths can’t add up happiness but using them will.

2. Gratitude

Gratitude is the feel to appreciate what you have got in your life and then being able to reflect on that. Benefits of gratitude encompass creation of positive emotions, better health and relationship. Being grateful also includes appreciating others for their excellence and not getting jealous of them. Complimenting people, encouraging them are ways to healthy relations.

3. Savouring

‘Savouring’ means enjoying the things to their fullest. Taking the taste till the last sip of your coffee constitutes savour moments. Mindfulness will help you to savour situations. Mindfulness relates to training of the mind for living in the present. One must be open and accepting to whatever happing around us. Instead of neglecting then truth, accepting it makes life simpler.

4. Flow

Get fully engrossed into your activity and enjoy every bit of it. Researchers have found that people’s happiness increases when they engage themselves fully into the activity they are supposed to do. Flow means the same; getting immensely into one’s acts. Flow must be there whether you do ice-skating, or read out your favourite novel or watch your favourite movie or you just spend time with your favourite person. If you are with someone then be only with them, similarly if you are doing something then do only that thing.

5. A meaningful life

Aim for an impactful life and not a long life i.e. “Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi!” Because a long life will not make you happy but, a meaningful life can do so. Search for your engine, search for your reason to live. Being a part of something great is satisfaction in itself.
