India is not the only place where controversies take place, but they are peculiar and unique from all other countries. You never know what catch the people’s attention and what becomes a big issue in this culturally, politically and emotionally diverse country.

Debates and contradiction of idea is common and a good thing for every country in every aspect. But the problem arises when these debates exceed a level and start creating violence. When these turn into controversies it affects a country in various ways.

Here is the list of some top controversies that shook India in 2018-

Triple Talaq

The practice of instant triple talaq has always been an issue for being injustice to Muslim women. The Supreme Court in 2017 stated clearly that the practice is against constitutional rights. The court ordered Parliament to make a law against triple talaq.

The issue reaches its peak this year when the Modi government introduced a bill in Parliament that made instant triple talaq a criminal offence with three-year imprisonment. The bill was successfully passed in the Lok Sabha but unfortunately not passed in the Rajya Sabha.

Shabarimala Issue

Women from a very long time were not allowed to enter shabarimala temple in Kerala. But when Supreme Court allowed women devotees to enter the temple. It leads to draw a battle line. This battle line was drawn between the people who were favouring this law and those people who were against this law. Those who were supporting this law was totally agree with the fact of equal rights and opportunities for everyone irrespective of the gender and those who were against raising the fact of right of religion.

CBI Vs CBI

In 2018 for the first time in history the CBI conducted raid on its own headquarter on octobor22. After sometime it gets revealed that it is due to the fight between CBI Director Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana. When the war between them reaches to a peak and spilled in public domain, both the officers were sent to leave.

Ram Mandir

Ram mandir in ayodhya didn’t just top the list of controversies for last year. Rather it was an emerging controversial issue from past many years. Every party in elections in uttar Pradesh promise to solve this issue. But till now nobody has fulfilled his promise. This year Political leaders, personalities like Baba Ramdev and Babri Masjid case supported to build a Ram mandir in Ayodhya.

Name Changing Spree

Yogi Adityanath the chief minister of uttar Pradesh has taken the words of shakespeare very seriously this year. He changed names of many states and stations that were based on muslim religion to hindu names. Mughalsarai station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Allahabad became Prayagraj, Faizabad district became Ayodhya district. He made various proposals of name change for different states across india. When after yogi adityanath promised to change the name of hyderabad to bhagyanagar this pace slows down.

Padmaavat

A movie directed by sanjay leele bhanshali based upon a rajput queen padmaavati faces a lot of fury. The rajput community created a lot of violence before the movie was released. They questioned that the movie brings "dishonour" to their queen. They burnt the posters, destroyed the properties. Not only that sanjay leela bhansali and Deepika Padukone also received threat calls from the people of this community. After editing of deepika padukone’s saree to cover her midriff and cutting various scenes the movie finally got released in theaters.
