You start your car, wear your seat belt,
Switch on that AC so you don't get melt.
You turn on the radio to listen to that song again,
But oh! It's radio, so it's gonna be the advertisement rain.

This is probably one of the most annoying thing everyone faces in their lives daily. You tune in that FM(Frequency Modulator) and all you hear is ads of all the products that mankind has ever invented and discovered. And when they have put to give these ads a break, they play some songs. Weren't they supposed to do that in the first place? If you google the numbers of minutes dedicated to advertising on radio, you will be astounded to find that in an hour, only four minutes are given to advertisements. Maybe they are trying to cover up the fact that four minutes are given to playing of songs. Turn on the radio at any minute, there are 85% chances that the song you would be hearing would be an advertisement jingle and not any song.

But they are doing this for a reason. Any Radio channel's income is generated from events that they organise, shows or concerts that they sponsor and advertisements. While the former two are not so frequent, ads hold the biggest share of income via radio. And if your client is paying you, he would want you to make his work your priority. So basically the radio channels are serving these companies that pay them for these musical but mostly-irritating ads. In this client-service provider relationship, radio has forgotten it's sole purpose of being - serving the listeners.

Just so you know, main job of a radio station is to play songs, announce news and spread awareness. And in between of this, a little bit of advertising will do. But when you reverse the whole framework, what you get is a list of completely satisfied clients, but at the cost of happy listeners. And this is not with one station. All of them are in a competition to air maximum advertisements.

One RJ(Radio Jockey) at 104.8 FM even exclamated by saying that 70% of time radio channels are playing advertisement jingles and rest 30% of time is left, in which they have to adjust songs, news and other stuff. You know what was ironical? During his entire programme, only five songs were played in an hour. The % of time taken in an hour by ads went down by just 0.00000000001%. Well done RJ. The only time you can expect an RJ to stop those ads is at night. You can actually listen to some quality music then. No ads, just music; pure music.

In this world of advertisements, radio channels have forgotten that they are counted as one of the sources of entertainment. A time when latest music and news were aired is now long forgotten. What the scenario should be is exactly opposite of what it really is right now. But if you have missed that amazing new advertisement of a new car, tune in to your favorite radio station now.
