Over the past few years, there have been a number of articles in international magazines and newspapers extolling the rise of India in the world economy. Phrases like 'the Asian giant' have become a commonplace. Futurologists have even speculated about a 'tripolar' scenario of the US, China and India dominating the global affairs in a decade or two from now.

The next century belongs to India, which can become a unique intellectual powerhouse... capturing all its glory which it had, in a millennium, gone by.’

True, in the past India did enjoy the power of being a hegemon which earned the epithet of ‘‘सोने की चिडिया’, the golden bird! India used to be a leader due to its richness in natural resources and merchandise. Due to a long term colonial rule and internal ups and downs, India lost its past glory and entered the track a little late while many other countries already took the lead with early industrialization

After independence, India made good progress, becoming independent in food processing, increasing its literacy, progressing in industrialization, improving usage of natural resources, participation in global markets and so on.

In the international politics, India has caught attention due to its firm foreign policy and immense contribution to the developing countries. In 2015, India with an expected growth rate of 7.5 per has surpassed China and for the first time, lead the World Bank's growth chart of major economies.

India’s progress has been remarkable in technology, sectors of defence, , entrepreneurships, banking, tele-communication have improved rapidly and Indian companies have been able to compete in global market. In the contemporary world economy, India is the largest exporter of IT. Exports dominate the Indian IT industry and constitute about 79% of the industry's total revenue. According to the released data by World Steel Association 2018, India bags 2nd position in world crude steel production putting Japan a notch lower.

A typical example of India's rising scientific endeavours is that it was the 3rd nation to found a National Space Agency called ISRO, after theUSSR and the U.S. Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), was the first successful Mars mission from Asia and by whom?? Off course India!!

India also has the potential to become a global hub for education and healthcare. Globally, India is regarded as a knowledge-producing machine with its doctors, engineers, scientists, and software professionals being the first preference of the international community.

India boasts an amazing variety and wealth of soft power resources. Topping the list in its spirituality, culture, film industry. The celebration of 21 July as ‘International Yoga day’ and 2nd October as ‘International peace day’ is a good example.

Though there are many spheres in which India has laid down its flag, but still a lot of more work is need to be done. India still lags behind the race! A lot more effort is more required by its people and government to raise their nations to a tremendous height of one among the multipolar!
