Yes, these little insects are much more important than you could ever imagine. Honey bee is most important for pollination of plants and crops. Although there are also many other insects and birds which help in pollination, but honey bee contributes most.

Importance of Honey Bee

Pollination is the process of transferring of pollen from male part of plant to female part of plant, which enables the production of seed which is done by insects and birds. Many crops such as sunflower, almonds, cherries, soya bean, melons, etc. are pollinated by honey bees. Most of the crops production depends on honey bees only. Importance of bees within food webs is often ignored. Bees also pollinate foods eaten by other animals and birds.Birds and mammals may rely on berries, seeds and also some fruits and nuts.It also has to be said that some domesticated animals benefit from pollination too.So you see, bees play a vital role in the whole food chain!

Honey bees also contributes a lot in the economy of a country. Wondering how can a bee do that? Honey bee provides us with honey and wax which has vast use in our day to day life.

Honey as a Medicine

Honey heals wounds, burns and is also considered antibacterial. It has been used in medicine since ancient times. Honey reduces the effects of diarrhea and also increases intake of water and potassium. It prevents upward flow of acid and indigestion of food. Honey has immediate effect on cold and cough symptoms.Sugar can be replaced with honey which helps diabetic patients. Bee wax is used in many commercial products like lip balm, candle making, cooking, skin care products, pain relief, etc.

How can we save Honey Bee

Honey bee is very useful for human being, but sadly the population of honey bee is declining day by day due to the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides in growing crops. This is a very serious issue as 80% of pollination work is done by bees only. If the number of bees kept on declining there will be a adverse effect on the whole environment cycle. There are many organisations and NGO's which are doing different activities to save honey bee and protect our environment cycle. But it is not enough, we all have to take steps to save honey bees. We should plant more and more plants and trees and reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides in growing crops to protect our environment cycle.
