The Inexistent Highway..(Ep-26)

There was again a meeting held in the village. After a lot of discussions, we decided to contact Garang because he was the only one who could help us in such a situation. For this, we had to go to the city to find him, because we were not in contact with him. He was recommended to us by Mr. Prathmay Singh, and we decided to go to his house to fetch his information.

The other day, we were in the city. It took three hours to reach his house, and we finally landed in his large bungalow. As we entered the house, we found his servant talking to someone on the phone. It seemed as if Mr. Prathmay was not in the house. Moreover, the situation of his home was deplorable, the walls were dug, the roof was broken, the almirahs were unlocked, things gathered on the floor. On asking the servant, we got to know that there was a CBI raid recently. He also told that Mr. Prathmay was in jail for holding a fake degree of a lawyer and earning fraud money. We had no reactions; we looked at each other's face and then finally gathered the courage to ask further details. Our head asked for Garang's contact. We were not prepared for what we heard. Those few lines that we heard fainted all the hopes and humanity that we had in us. Garang was a fraud. I still shiver when this day comes to my mind, I don't even want to write this because I don't want the reader to know that we were foolish to this extent.

My father feared what would happen if the other villagers came to know about this. They would not bear this fraud. We decided to meet Mr. Prathmay at the police station and take further details from him.

We went there with a lot of hope to catch hold of Garang. But the scene that we saw in the police station was more disheartening. Garang was present in the police station itself. He was talking with the policemen. The guard informed us that it was because of Garang that they caught hold of Prathmay. We understood his plan. He helped the police to discover Prathmay’s fraud and hid his fraud. This way, the police would never doubt him, and he would safely take all our money and would run away.

My father went close to Garang and slapped him. There was chaos in the police station. We told the police that Garang himself was a thief, who first stole our belief’s and then our money. But the police didn’t believe us moreover the policemen threw my father in the jail for initiating violence. I talked to Garang to stop all this and return our land papers. He gave a wicked smile and told that all that land belonged to him.
