If you are addicted to the celluloid and willing to establish your career on the silver screen , then a personality to whom you should look up at every step is the jewel of Indian film industry Satyajit Ray.

If we were to classify history of Indian cinema then it would be probably divided into two eras- Pre Satyajit era and Satyajit era. The very eligible son of the great poet Sukumar Ray was an efficient film maker , script writer , a pioneer song composer , fiction writer , calligrapher , set designer , graphic designer etc. He had an overwhelming command over all these fields yet carried a humble nature.

Satyajit wasdetermined to be a film maker after attending the screening of the Italian neorealist film ' The bicyclethieves '. Later he brought a Renaisseance into the world of Indian cinema. His films not only inspired the Indian film makers but also earned respect from the international directors like James Ivory , Akira Kurosawa and Wes Anderson. His first film trilogy, which is the Apu's Trilogy ,has earned a world wide appreciation.

One of the film of the trilogy 'Panther Panchali ', that is the 'Song of the little road ' brought him the most prestigious award in the genre of film making which is the academy award for the best director and lifetime achievement award.

Besides being a prolific director, he was a
huge admirer of arts and paintings and alsofilmed a documentary named ' Inner Eye ' on the life of the great blind Artist Binod Behari Mukherjee . Before coming into films he was a graphic designer and designed many famous book covers like Jim Corbett's Man Eaters of Kumaon and Jawaharlal Neheru's Discovery of India .

He was mostly known as Manik da as a sign of respect. He launched the careers of many renowned artists like Sharmila Tagore and Soumitra Chatterjee. He casted them into his films in Apu's Trilogy.

He bagged over 32 national awards out of which 6 were for the best director. He was awardedhonorary doctorate from the Oxford University , the second film person receiving the honor after Charlie Chaplin.

Though he left us very early , only at the age of 71 but his legacy continues to inspire the filmakers in India and worldwide throughout their life.
